Pyrope is the magnesium-aluminum end member of the garnet group and produces the classic deep red that has defined garnet in the public eye for centuries — but this Tanzanian material shows something better than the typical dark, near-black pyrope that crowds the market. The color here is open and bright, a vivid red with real transparency that will face up with life rather than going dark and dead in the stone.
