Spessartite is the manganese-aluminum end member of the garnet group, and the Tanzanian material produces the warm orange to orange-red that the species is known for. This lot shows that color range across the four pieces — from a lighter golden orange to a deeper reddish orange — all with the characteristic sugary texture typical of spessartite rough from this region.
The sugar inclusions are expected and normal for the material; cutters familiar with spessartite know to work around them and orient for the cleanest possible table.
