Two pieces of Nigerian vanadium emerald rough, 4.47 grams total weight. Vanadium emerald occupies a specific and often misunderstood position in the emerald spectrum — technically beryl colored by vanadium rather than chromium, though many in the trade recognize vanadium-colored stones as true emerald. What sets this material apart is the hue: a rare blue-green that sits distinctly cooler than the classic chromium greens of Colombian or Zambian material, with a softness that photographs exceptionally well and faces up with real presence in white metal settings.
The larger piece is a prismatic crystal with strong hexagonal structure still partially intact — good length-to-width ratio with transparent windows visible along the body. Color is even and reads as a clear blue-teal green with good saturation. The smaller piece is a blocky, cleanly broken fragment with excellent transparency and slightly stronger green saturation than the crystal — this one will orient quickly and cut efficiently. Both pieces carry the expected minor inclusions typical of natural emerald; neither is eye-clean in rough form as is typical for emerald. Any cutter comfortable with emerald will find these straightforward to work with.
